Greenway Road Clean-up Event

On April 23, 2009, in celebration of Earth Day, fourteen volunteers from the public joined the SNAP Anti-litter Desert Dumping team (Don't Trash Nevada) to help clean a battered section of Sloan Canyon off of Greenway Rd. in Henderson. The fourteen volunteers were able to remove 20 cubic yards of construction debris. To the surprise of many volunteers, a large hot tub was also removed. Later in the day 79 students from Mannion Middle School made the short trek from their school to this location and continued the clean-up efforts. The students enthusiastically removed an additional 36 cubic yards of construction debris, household furniture, and landscape debris from the Sloan Canyon area in a record time of one hour. A SNAP conservation education team member was also there with Mojave Max to teach the Mannion Middle School students about the importance of a clean ecosystem. Since this clean-up, Mannion Middle School students and teachers have expressed an interest in "adopting" this site as a Take Pride in America School.

If your school is interested in "adopting" an area of Public Land or interested in becoming a Take Pride in America School, please contact Daniel Chase at 895-5149 for more information.
